VECAT
Virginia Education Center for Asphalt Technology
Virginia Education Center for Asphalt Technology is a partnership between Germanna Community College, the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Virginia Asphalt Association.
VECAT was created with the primary goals of improving the overall quality of design, delivery, and testing for all asphalt-related material certification schools and by increasing focus on the materials provided to students, thereby improving the quality, understanding, and delivery of pavement management strategies and technologies.
VIEW VECAT CLASSESOur curriculum is designed to elevate industry standards by focusing on four key educational pathways:
Materials Certification Program
Formerly managed by VDOT, this program focuses on certification for Asphalt Field Levels 1 and 2, Asphalt Plant Levels 1 and 2, Slurry Surfacing, Surface Treatment, Cold Asphalt Plant, Cold Asphalt Field and Mix Design as required per VDOT specifications.
VECAT TRAINING PROGRAM
This program was developed to help train individuals in Asphalt Plant and Asphalt Mix Design before they seek certification in those disciplines.
Apprenticeship Program
Accredited by the Virginia Department of Labor, VECAT is responsible for the asphalt courses and curriculum required to support the program. The program is available to employees of asphalt or other industry-supporting companies, as well as students in the community college system.
ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE PROGRAM
This program is an accredited degree through the community college system. The Asphalt Technologist Associate’s Degree is an outcome of the apprenticeship program.
